SIP-adus Workshop 2022

With the objective to further develop, implement, and promote automated driving technologies, SIP-adus Workshops have been held yearly since 2014. This year, as the final year of the second phase of SIP, the workshop was held over 4 days in Kyoto, Japan in cooperation with Doshisha University. Through panel discussions (with experts representing the US, the EU and Japan), sessions on the latest research and state of progress of each theme, poster exhibitions, the introduction of automated vehicles, etc., we were able to summarize our efforts and disseminate them throughout the world. The workshop was attended by 487 participants, including 99 researchers from 18 overseas countries and regions. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to these participants and to all those who offered their support and cooperation in making the workshop a great success!
From next year, SIP’s objectives, achievements, and activities will be carried on by the Mobility Innovation Alliance Japan.

  • Session Topics

    • In this session, speakers from each area like US, Europe, Asia will introduce latest research activities and topics regarding automated driving.
    • In this session, we will discuss ideas and problems related to service and business models in automated mobility services especially for passenger transportation and delivery, which have been studied in many countries and regions.
    • This session is to share the world latest examples of dynamic data distribution/exchange with Dynamic Map and the updates, and to discuss the direction for further international collaborations and the possibility for the utilization of latest technologies.

      Overview

    • The use of connectivity for autonomated driving and Advanced Safe Driving Systems is being considered in each regions of the world, but it has not yet been put into full-scale practical use.
      We will share trends regarding cooperative driving automation in each region and consider issues.

    • The virtual environment is an indispensable technology for the realization of security. So as to accelerate the expansion of virtual testing technology for safety assurance, the international cooperation on the requirements for the virtual environment and the method of validation should be enhanced. The virtual environment and evaluation methods are discussed in this session in order to figure out how to proceed with future collaboration and harmonization.

      Overview

    • Each OEMs are making effort to continuously protect systems against cyber attacks under the adopted UN regulations; such as using IDS/IPS. IDS/IPS enable to detect attacks then to realize quick initial action, however, it is indispensable to keep systems always safe from potential threats in order to attain sustainable safety and security.
      In this session, we will study: methods to assess IDS/IPS, technical requirements to quickly share information related to potential threats, as well as proactive survey and collection of this kind of information.

    • This session will summarize the past efforts in human factors for safety of automated driving, and also share unsolved issues and new issues.

      Overview

    • Diffusion of automated driving vehicles (ADs) is considered to help to reduce traffic accidents, alleviate traffic congestion, resolve the driver shortage, and resolve other social problems. On the other hand, ADs are necessary to be installed with adequate consent by people and society. Panelists address views and analysis on the issues, challenges, estimations or expectations related to social impact of AD technologies in this session.

      Overview

    • In this session, their various attempts related to automated driving, ITS as well as Information and Communication technologies will be introduced by the contributing Japanese government ministries and agencies.
